At least one dead, several injured in Arkansas auto show shooting

AAt least one person has been killed and many others injured in a shooting at a car show.

The shooting, which occurred in Dumas, Arkansas, on Saturday evening, injured at least 24 people, including several children.

“A suspect is in custody and the search continues today for additional individuals who may have fired into the crowd,” Arkansas State Police said in a statement. Police said they are investigating the incident with the help of other law enforcement.

The filming occurred outside of the 16th annual “Hood-nic” event, hosted by the Delta Neighborhood Empowerment Youth Organization. Organizers told KARK the event was an attempt to promote nonviolence.

“Several gunmen just started shooting” at the event around 6:50 p.m. local time, witnesses said. Police were dispatched at 7.25pm ​​after gunshots were heard outside a local business near the car show.

Event organizer Wallace McGehee expressed his condolences for the victims of the shooting. “For something like this to happen, it’s a tragedy”, McGehee said KATV. “We’ve done this here for 16 years with no problem.”

“I am heartbroken by the mass shooting tonight in Dumas, Arkansas,” tweeted Arkansas gubernatorial candidate Chris Jones early Sunday. “We need each other more than ever.”
