U of A’s Hill Records Releases Debut EP Featuring Three Arkansas Artists

The cover of Hill Records’ debut EP, From The High Ground, is now available on streaming platforms.

Hill Records, the U of A student record label, has released their debut EP, From the heightsavailable now on digital streaming services like Spotify.

The compilation features music from three Arkansas artists selected in a 2021 call for submissions: Pat Ryan Key, CANON H3AD and fox paw.

Key, a native of northwest Arkansas and a longtime performer, is an award-winning producer and songwriter. He said his recent work is “a mix of soul, funk, roots and rhythm and blues” and that he aims for his music to appeal to a wide audience with “authentic lyrics and a versatile voice”. .

The eclectic Little Rock-based duo H3ADCANNON is made up of Sam Byrd and Dyl Wil, who describe their music as “limitless, full-throttle hyperpop.” The duo said they focus on “high-energy delivery and inventive combinations of pop punk, metalcore and electropop elements” to keep their work “focused on fun”.

Foxpaw is a self-proclaimed “acoustic-centric indie rock” solo project by Chandler B. of Fayetteville, who has said that it combines “rural and urban Southern inspiration, dreamlike instrumentation and vocals, and music-making methods. ‘old-school recording’ to provide listeners with an intimate musical experience.

“Working with Hill Records has allowed me to be part of a grassroots organization made up of some of the best talent in Arkansas,” Chandler B. added. “As an Arkansas folk musician, it makes me proud to be part of a group that represents my house.”

Jake Hertzog, educational advisor on the Hill Records project, echoed those sentiments, adding that “it’s so exciting to partner with such fantastic musicians from Arkansan on this project.”

“In addition, our amazing students can gain real experience in the music industry while making connections in our region and preparing for various careers in the entertainment industry,” he said.

In addition to featuring these artists on his debut compilation EP, the artists of From the heights will also be featured alongside Hill Records artists selected from the current call for entries in a showcase at George’s Majestic Lounge at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3.
